LATEST PROJECTS

Child Life Assistant

Mt. Washington Pediatric Hospital
Baltimore, Maryland
October 2014 to present

I primarily work on the School-Age and Adolescent unit at Mt. Washington. Mt. Washington is a rehabilitation hopsital for children. I often collaborate with full-time Child Life Specialists about patient status, events, and guests. I prioritize patients in terms of age, mobility, and parental presence and whether Child Life services can be provided bedside or in the playroom. I analyze patient's developmental and social goals in order to provide appropriate interventions. I am knowledgeable of appropriate toy and playroom cleaning procedures, and skilled in supervising and facilitating playroom activities for up to 5 children

Practicum 2

Palmetto Health Children's Hospital
Columbia, South Carolina
January 2014 to May 2014

This second practicum was in my senior year of undergrad. My responsibilities with this pracicum were greater and expectations from my supervisor were higher. While I stile rotated through the units I was able to do more than observe. I slowly took on tasks like bringing activities to patient's rooms, facilitating playroom activites, and even prepped for an IV procedure. This 100 hour practicum expereince gave me confidence in my abilities and pushed me to learn more. Throughout the semester I kept a daily journal where I applied developmental theory to the patient's I saw and reflected on the days events.

Volunteering

Palmetto Health Children's Hospital
Columbia, South Carolina
June 2013 to December 2013

Between practicums I volunteered with the Child Life department at the same hospital. I primarily worked on the Infants and Toddlers floor and the School Age and Adolescents floor. I helped to clean toys and the playroom, visited patients in their rooms, facilitated both individual and group activities in the playroom, and also escorted the pet therapy team to patient rooms.

Practicum 1

Palmetto Health Children's Hospital
Columbia, South Carolina
January 2013 to May 2013

My first Child Life practicum was purely obsrvational. While being supervised by a Certified Child Life Specialist (CCLS) I rotated through all pediatric units in the hospital. I shadowed the CCLS in each unit to see what their day consisted of and how they interacted with patient's and families. I was able to observe several preps and distractions, plus some medical procedures. During this 100 hour practicum I kept a detailed log of what I saw and learned.

Just a sample of my experiences. To hear more or discuss possible work >>
